The incident happened on June 13 in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district where a man has been arrested in Bihar for brutally torturing his wife and locking her in a room for two days on suspicion of an extramarital affair. The woman has accused her husband of inserting chilli powder into her private parts, and using a hot iron to burn her thighs.
The victim’s statement indicates that the cruelty continued beyond that point. She alleged that her husband, Shatrughan Rai of 40 years old, even tried to electric shock her and locked her in a room without food or water for two days.
The woman said despite her loud screams, the neighbors did not come to help her. It was only on June 15 that she was rescued after her brother came to her house.
On June 16, the woman lodged an FIR against her husband, mother in law Dukhni Devi (45), brother-in-law Sumesh Rai (30), and sister in law Pushpa Devi (26). While her husband was arrested swiftly, the other members were absconding.
According to the victim who has been married for 10 years and have three children, “For the last six months, my husband and his family have been suspecting me. When I offered to undergo a medical test to prove my innocence, they threatened to kill me. Then, they did things that even animals wouldn’t do.”
