EMERGENCY MEETING CALLED TO INITIATE INVESTIGATION

An emergency meeting of the Judicial Council is scheduled to be held to initiate the investigation process against the judges who acquitted Nepali Congress MP Mohammad Aftab Alam in a murder case.

Judicial Council Chairman and Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut has directed that an emergency meeting be convened at 9 AM on Wednesday. “The agenda of the meeting will include the appointment of judges and other matters, but the primary focus will be the decision to acquit Alam,” a Judicial Council source said. “Today’s meeting is likely to concentrate on this issue.”

A few days ago, during an informal “zero hour” meeting of the Supreme Court judges, this issue was raised loudly and seriously. After questions began to arise from all sides, the Chief Justice, in consultation with the council members, fixed the date for the meeting.

The Judicial Council, led by Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, includes the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, Sapana Pradhan Malla; members Ram Prasad Bhandari and Damodar Khadka; and Law Minister Ajay Kumar Chaurasia.
