A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the public transport strike called by the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs. On Tuesday, advocate Bivek Pokharel filed the petition, naming the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and the Federation as defendants.
The petition is scheduled for hearing on Wednesday. It seeks an interim order to immediately resume public transport services, arguing that the strike violates the Constitution. Public transport is classified as an essential service, and strikes in such sectors are prohibited by law.
The petition claims that the strike has violated the fundamental rights of citizens by restricting their freedom of movement, profession, and employment rights that are guaranteed under Article 17, Sub article 2 of the Constitution.
