The flag of Nepal is unique over the world. It is only one flag in the world which in non-quadrilateral in shape. The flag of Nepal is consisting of two triangular shapes. It has a crimson background with a dark blue border. The upper segment has a white moon emitting eight rays, with a crescent attached below. A white, stylized sun with 12 rays is in the flag’s bottom section.
BUT WHO DESIGNED?
The flag of Nepal is designed by 89 years engineer and architect Shankar Nath Rimal. He was designed the flag on the request of King Mahendra about in 2018 BS(about 62 years ago). Rimal remembered, when king Mahendra asked him ‘can you do it?, He replied ‘yes, I can do it’.
THIS INCIDENT CALLED HIM !!
According to Rimal, after Nepal became a member of the United Nations, one flag was used when the minister went, another flag was used when the king went, and another flag was used when the secretary went. After seeing different flags, Nepal was asked, which is the official flag of Nepal? Everyone was shocked. This news reached the king. And then king Mahendra during the time of formation of New constitution in 2018, he called Rimal to design the flag.
FLAG WAS NOT ALWAYS LIKE THIS!!
Before 2019, there was no standard flag in Nepal. It was customary to keep two triangles and moon and sun since tradition. Some used to put the sun above and some below to make the flag. Human faces were also placed on it. “The moon and the sun means, whatever you imagine, but the triangle, the moon and the sun, red and blue colors are what anyone would have.”

He designed the attractive Shaheed Gate of the capital Kathmandu, which was inaugurated by King Mahendra on 1st Baisakh of the year 2018. HIS BACKGROUND?
Rimal was Born in Tangal, Kathmandu, and he passed engineering in 1957 from Bengal Engineering College under Kolkata University. After that he was employed at Sadar Public Niksari Adda. He was also the Secretary General of Nepal Art council.
