Two young women studying at the graduation level in Arghakhachi have married to each other. After the wedding, the couple also got their same-sex marriage registered at the ward office.
Anita from Bhumikasthan Municipality in Arghakhanchi and Binita (name changed) from Kapilvastu Municipality in Kapilvastu got married on 18 Jestha 2082 after falling in love while studying in college.
Jyoti Panthi, ward secretary of Bhumikasthan Municipality-9, said that 23-year-old Anita from Arghakhanchi became the groom and 20-year-old Binita the bride and registered a ‘same-sex marriage’ in handwritten form.
After their marriage, they have been living in Kapilvastu. ‘Initially, there was some confusion, but later, after understanding from the municipality, we gave them a handwritten marriage registration certificate,’ she said. ‘We have not made it public as both of them asked to keep their names confidential.’
