Show Cause order in the name of Nepal Electricity Authority

The bench of Honorable Judge Shree Durga Prasad Dhungel has issued a show cause order in the name of Nepal Electricity Authority, Central Office. On Sunday, a law student, Bivek Chaudhary, filed a writ petition in the Patan High Court demanding to give prior notice to the consumers before cutting the electricity.

Petitioner has mentioned that Article 27 of our constitution has provisioned for the right to information, and it is the right of the consumers to get prior notice before a power cut.  The petitioner argues that such prior notice would not only uphold consumers’ rights but also promote transparency and accountability in the operations of the Nepal Electricity Authority.

The hearing of the writ was scheduled on Monday, where Patan High Court issued a show cause order in the name of the defendant. The court has directed the defendant to explain why such notices have not been issued to consumers, emphasizing the importance of transparency and communication in public services. This case could set a significant precedent for consumer rights and accountability in utility management.
